Dennis Dame painting. December 20,2008
This morning my son, Dennis, and I went out for a couple of hours painting.  The forecast was for one to three inches of snow.  We had light rain.  Never the less we had a good time.  As we started home our discussion centered around the importance of a firm "Concept" of how we want the finished painting to appear.  Just taking a moment to think, plan, organize, an orderly attack on the canvas makes the process so much easier and faster.  Being aware of changing light and time constraints adds pressure to get paint on fast.  For me, making a plan before I start is so much faster than repainting areas at the end of the painting.  It might be interesting to do actual "Time Studies" to see how much faster (and better) paintings go with a firm concept at the start.  We had a great time!
