The "Still Life in Oils" will be a painting from life workshop (not photos). We will look at setting up our objects to achieve an attractive, artistic arrangement. We will see how light and shadow can add excitement and interest to our work. Participants are encouraged to bring some small curio, vase, or other object of interest to make the still life unique and personal. I will provide the basic setup for the still life. The purpose of this workshop is to explore the use of dramatic lighting in portrait painting. The mood of a portrait is greatly affected by the type of light illuminating the subject. It is therefore useful to the artist to consider how dramatic lighting might enhance a good portrait and elevate it to "excellent portrait" status. In the workshop we will see how the use of "light,shadow,and reflected light" can be used to give the portrait both a beauty and a "painterly quality" that may set it above the standard photograph.
